Released in September 1989 in the US and the next year in Europe and Japan, the Atari Lynx is a fourth-generation handheld console and the first with a color LCD display. The system was discontinued in 1995.

THE ATARI LYNX AT A GLANCE
There are two Lynx models, the original Lynx which was released in 1989, and the Lynx II which was released in 1991. Lynx II is smaller and features improved sound and a better-backlit color screen.
- The handheld system was developed by two former Amiga designers working for Epyx (RJ Mical and Dave Needle)
- In 1991, Lynx I was replaced by Lynx II
- The Lynx competed with Sega GameGear and TurboExpress from NEC
